Better I will do fish farming in my own village rather than putting things off for other jobs,” said one Sarita BC, a resident of Lamki in Kailali district. The young woman who recently completed her higher secondary education changed her mind after attending a commercial pisciculture training programme in Geta of Kailali recently.
The Project for Agriculture Commercialisation and Trade (PACT) under the Ministry of Agricultural Development (MoAD) had organised the training for 25 farmers of Kailali and Kanchanpur districts. Training Coordinator Gayatri Raj Wagle said three experts felicitated sessions in the training. “The training programme is organised so as to enable women to disseminate the to other farmers,” PACT Regional Chief Madan Thapa said. Like BC, other participants of the training also shared that have been motivated by the programme to further strengthen fish farming business. Experts stated that while Nepali fish haven't got attention in the market, traders are importing the fish from other nations including India. Meanwhile, participants said expansion of market for Nepali agriculture products was necessary.
